Walking Haad Tien Beach (also called Haad Thian, Had Thian or even Thien, which is like Mangrove Beach, a common name used in islands like Koh Tao as well), on the east coast of Koh Phangan, Thailand. Very cute beach with a yoga-hippie vibe. Quite a lot of of plastic trash at the north side but that usually washes up over night. The north side also has a lot of Mangrove trees, rocks and corals so you won’t be doing any comfy swimming över there. It’s in front of the The Sanctuary resort that you could play in the water and have a lunch at the restaurant. There are dirt roads and I think also a hiking path along the coast to get here but taxi boat from Haad Rin is recommended if the waves allow it. Apparently this beach was the inspiration to “The Beach” movie/book, while in the movie it’s shown as Maya Bay. Nowadays this beach isn’t exactly unknown but you if you have seen the movie or read the book you can see the similarities. Must have been pretty epic in the past when these areas where more wild and less visited. I do think this is great place and together with the neighboring beaches, Haad Yuan and Why Nam, it’s a tri-force classic thai beach flashback trip.
